For this week's DRAWING IN on Saturday 11th February, 3-5pm, Alice Dansey-Wright (who created our current window display) will be making Valentine's cards. Drop in any time between 3-5pm to draw your own just in time to pass it on to someone special on Tuesday 14th February.

Drawing In

Since 14th January, Drawing In has been taking place every Saturday afternoon in the foyer at the CCA between 3-5pm. It is open to all and is quite simply a place to create and exchange ideas, an informal drawing club of sorts. Basic materials are provided but you are welcome to bring your own and/or anything you have been working on. It has been great fun so far and will continue every Saturday afternoon until further notice so do come and join in!

Okay, so it has been an absolute age since I have posted here, there has been lots going on and the summer seemed to pass in a busy blur! We are now well and truly on our way to winter - a new season and time for a new look. Welcome Home had a little work done and turned two while we were closed for CCA's foyer refurbishment. We're open again, looking good and excited to be getting lots of new stock in!

Hello! Who said that Friday is unproductive? Definitely not the case for Welcome Home! Me and Mhari did a fabulous job of decorating the shop window with gorgeous scarves, cushions, bags and necklaces for FABRICATED. I’ve already noticed lots of people glancing at these wonderful handcrafted items while passing through the shop. We also shipped quite a few online orders, well done guys!

Now let’s move to the most important part: The pick of the day is an eye-catching Mountain Badge. This lovely hand painted wooden badge made by Edinburgh artist Louise Smurthwaite will certainly jazz up your outfit. You might think it’s quite big, but this triangle-shaped badge in blue and white will definitely make you stand out in the crowd!

Hello! It’s Renata again, having another lovely day at Welcome Home.

Yesterday a new fantastic embroidered chair made by Fun Makes Good arrived for FABRICATED. You definitely have to come to see it! It's sitting in the window, so you would notice this unique chair even passing by the shop but come in and check out the details!

Anyway, the product of the day I chose today is the Handmade Fabric Bangle. It is a must-have accessory for the summery look! For only £8 you can add a bohemian and unique look to your outfit!

It's a busy week here at Welcome Home, we're setting up FABRICATED, our textile design showcase at the moment and have lots of lovely new products coming in too. Luckily we've got a great new intern joining us for the next two weeks, Renata will be sharing her experiences and product picks with you all here...

Hello everyone! First of all I would like to share with you guys how excited I am to work here at Welcome Home! Anyway, it is a first day to me, so I got familiar with all the lovely stuff you can find in the store. You should definitely come over to say hello and see what we've got here!

Also I was asked to pick the item of the day and I decided to choose the amazing Snail Plate which can be used for holding a lovely cupcake or an apple for those who like a healthier option. Nonetheless, it's a great decoration for your kitchen or even bathroom! Just let your imagination fly :) The Snail Cake Plate was designed and made by Takae Mizutani in Cornwall, England and is available in white or natural finish. The best part is that it is available online, so you don't even have to go anywhere but just wait comfortably at home for it to arrive.

Product of the Day: Bird Hand Shadow Ring

Designed by Inca Starzinsky, this acrylic laser cut ring in the shape of a hand shadow bird is adorably unique. With many other designs available such as: Dinosaurs, Rabbit and Deer, I can’t help but be charmed! Each ring comes packaged in bespoke envelopes with an illustrated information sheet showing each of the hand positions used to make the shadows. Welcome Home has just introduced a brand new collection of work by London-based ceramicist Jo Davies, available in store now, in our online shop and there are even more pieces available over on our Culture Label site. Her beautiful porcelain vases, cups and finch bowls are individually made featuring twisting lines that occur naturally when being thrown. I think they will bring a touch of elegance to any and every table, now all I need is someone to buy me some flowers!

Hello everyone, I am very excited to tell you that I’m the new intern at Welcome Home, situated at CCA. We are already getting stuck in with a brand new window display of treats, so if you fancy popping in for a chat and looksie, do!

There are so many delightful things here at Welcome Home so I thought I’d highlight a few special pieces over the course of this week.

Product of the Day: Garudio Studiage Flat Pets

Have all the perks of owning a pet without the messy downsides! I adore this little screen printed puppy - who wouldn’t want to wake up to his wee cute face? So far, I can confirm he is very well behaved and obedient, he has really mastered the command: Stay! This eco-friendly pup has been printed and die cut on an A4 sheet of recycled grey board and is available at Welcome Home online or in the CCA at just £10.00.

Later this week we are hoping to introduce a brand new workshop and I’m really looking forward to UPMARKET this Sat and Sun at the CCA Terrace Bar with Aye Aye Books, so stay tuned!

Sunday 19th June is the last day of the 234D exhibition at Welcome Home and to mark the occasion we've got a special workshop and demonstration taking place from 12-4pm. Join us to try out some amazing new software developed for 3D design by Anarkik3D with Ann Marie Shillito:

You just have to try Cloud9 3D sketch/modelling ‘haptic’ software as it can’t be described adequately. If you don't know what ‘haptics’ is, it's the astonishing ability to "touch" virtual objects.

Can you imagine the ease with which you could manipulate complex designs with a real sense of 3D touch instead of awkward menus and control interfaces? Haptics makes for a better interface for designing digitally in 3D.

If you are a designer, a maker, an applied artists and freaked by 3D CAD (even Rhino and sketch-up) this is for you. Anarkik3D designed and built Cloud9 for designer makers. It is tested by designer makers and the company’s CEO, Ann Marie Shillito, is an internationally known and respected designer maker and jeweller. She will be here to give hands-on demos and she promises it will be great fun, for all ages!

2 dimensions to 3 dimensions by 4 designers

234D is a collaborative project between FAB3D and Welcome Home, which fuses craft with digital fabrication technologies to produce a range of innovative lighting. The exhibition and project launch will feature work by four Glasgow based designers – Amanda Faulkner Whalen, Black Arches, Chloe Highmore and Fun Makes Good.

The project translates 2D patterns to 3D designs resulting in 4 pieces of contemporary lighting. 234D is about working in new ways and challenging the traditional design process with technology and vice versa.

STITCH IT - BASIC CREATIVE SEWING COURSE

A weekend of sewing classes with Jennie Lööf (www.jennieloof.com) and Silvia Pellegrino (www.chouchoucouture.com) who will teach you how to use that dusty old sewing machine and stitch new life into old clothes!

1st class - Saturday 5th February, 2-5pm:

We will start at the beginning and show you how to thread the machine, how to do a straight, curved and corner stitch and how to cut fabric according to pattern. You will also be c...reating your own hand made tote-bag to take home with you. Materials are provided but if you have any favourite fabrics you would like to use, feel free to bring them along.

2nd class - Sunday 6th February, 2-5pm:

We will be teaching you how to do basic alterations, such as how to take up and bring down hems, alter sizes, fix a hole or rip, etc. You will also be given a few creative customisation ideas to transform your wardrobe. For this class you will need to bring in items of clothing to work on and update with your new skills!

Life Drawing

Are you wanting to improve your drawing or learn a new skill in 2011? Life Drawing classes are coming back to Welcome Home, a new 6 week block starts on Thursday 27th January 7-9pm and the last class will be Thursday 3rd March 7-9pm. The cost of the 6 week block is just £50, there are easels and drawing boards provided but you will need to bring your own sketchbooks, paper and any materials you wish to use.

There will be a different model each week with varied poses and durations. It is a small, relaxed class suitable for both the beginner and more experienced artist alike. After the success of the recent STITCH IT! creative sewing classes with fashion designers Jennie Lööf (www.jennieloof.com) and Silvia Pellegrino (www.chouchoucouture.com) we are holding a special workshop to revamp your winter wardrobe.

You will learn basic sewing, customisation and tailoring techniques and become confident with a sewing machine. Any old piece in your wardrobe can be given a new lease of life with these inspiring alteration and restyling tips!

This class is suitable for beginners as well as those with some sewing experience who are lacking a little creativity and new ideas. Please bring any old items of clothing that you would like to work on. If you have a sewing machine please do bring it along (with the manual if you've got it) so you can learn how to do everything on your own machine and continue to create at home.

+ STITCH IT! - BASIC CREATIVE SEWING CLASSES +

Have you always wondered how to use that dusty sewing machine standing on your desk? Would you like to feel free to create, losing the fear of making mistakes? Do you love fashion and the magic of creating something in your own taste? If the answers are all YES then come join us at STITCH IT!!! Join us for a 3 week course of creative sewing classes with fashion business owners Jennie Lööf and Silvia Pellegrino.

1st lesson - Saturday 30th October 2-5pm:

We will start at the beginning and show you how to thread the machine, how to do a straight, curved and corner stitch and how to cut fabric according to pattern. You will also create and take home with you your own hand made tote-bag.

2nd lesson - Saturday 6th November 2-5pm:

We will now go in to the world of clothing and show you how to do basic alterations. Such as how to take up and bring down hems, alter sizes, fix a hole or rip, etc. So we encourage you to bring in some of those items you have in your wardrobe but never wear because of those centimeters that just don’t agree with your taste.

3rd lesson - Saturday 13th November 2-5pm:

Now when the knowledge is there we will start exploring your creative mind, with creative alteration/restyling of clothes. In this lesson we will show you how to transform that dated dress/skirt/shirt/trousers into a catwalk ready piece. You will learn how to add on or take away design elements to your item in an easy, quick but long lasting way. The second hand shops will be your new high street after this one!

As it's national wool week it would be rude not to indulge in some cosiness... This week's product of the week is Hilary Grant's Rocky Mountain cushions which are hand made from 100% lambswool knitted in great patterns and felted for extra softness. I love them and want to create a whole landscape for myself. At present they are available in store only but I will be digging out the camera and getting them in the online shop soon!

Quilting Classes

Quilting classes with Freya Gabie are coming back to Welcome Home this month...

17th October, 2-5pm – Patterns, templates and patchwork.

24th October, 2-5pm – Patterns, templates and patchwork.

7th November, 2-5pm – Quilting.

14th November, 2-5pm – Quilting.

+ There is a week's break in the middle on Sunday 31st October +

Materials are provided but you are welcome to bring in anything that you have been working on or your favourite fabrics to use.

The classes will overlap techniques and there is time for personal tuition so you can develop your project at your own pace and join us for one class or the full course.

Origami Flower Class

Tunnock's Teacake Cushion

Very pleased to have these back in stock again, such a fun idea for just 20 of your golden pounds!

Make yourself a cuppa and settle down with one of these on the sofa... These great Tunnock's Teacake cushions are screen printed and handmade by Nikki McWilliams. They are made from 100% thick cotton with a nice soft but sturdy feel. On the front the famous packaging design is printed in red on cream cotton and the back is a dark red cotton to match.

These cushions are stuffed to perfection by hand and do not have removable covers (dry clean only). They measure 16" in diametre.

Well it's back to school this week for kids in Scotland, so this week's product of the week the 9 til 5 tea towel is a funny and clever tribute to our school days from Glasgow based illustrator Emily Chappell.

"This tea towel is based on the traditional school self-portrait format. Only, this is what became of the kids."

A small selection of the names on it - easy like Sunday morning, 1980s, I look like my Gran, he ploughed his own furrow, and reader I left him...
